The Wire interviewed former Research and Analysis Wing chief A.S Dulat to understand the crisis in Kashmir and possible resolutions. Dulat has served in Kashmir for a long time, his most important tenure being from the year 2001 to 2004 when he was the advisor on Kashmir in the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's office.
Last year, his book Kashmir: The Vajpayee years, co-authored with senior journalist Aditya Sinha, created a lot of ripples as he became one of the few security personnels to advocate that the military presence in Kashmir should be reduced and that India needs to take the Kashmiris into confidence through humanitarian measures
